What is a 24-Hour Holter Monitor?
A Holter monitor is a small, battery-powered medical device that measures and records your heart's activity (ECG) continuously for 24 hours.
At Heartwise, we use high-precision digital recorders that are lightweight and highly comfortable. All tests are read and reviewed by Dr. Amit Singh, FACC.
Why your doctor may have ordered one:
- To investigate palpitations, racing heartbeat, or irregular pulses
- To find the cause of unexplained dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
- To screen for silent arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation (AFib), or flutter
- To check how well your heart medications or pacemaker are controlling symptoms
The monitor is small, lightweight, and worn under your clothes. You can work, walk, and sleep normally. The only restriction is keeping the device dry (no showering or swimming while wearing it).
What to expect during the test:
- Small sticky patches (electrodes) are placed on your chest and connected to the recording device via thin wires.
- The device is placed in a small pouch worn around your shoulder, waist, or clipped to your belt.
- You continue your daily activities and log any symptoms (like palpitations) in a diary.
- Return the device after 24 hours. The data is analysed and interpreted by Dr. Amit Singh.
