Why a Single BP Reading Isn't Enough
Blood pressure naturally changes throughout the day, so a single clinic reading may not reflect your usual BP. Some people experience temporary stress-related “white-coat hypertension,” while others may have normal clinic readings but high BP elsewhere.
At Heartwise, we use comfortable, lightweight, and silent ambulatory monitors to ensure your daily routine and sleep are minimally disrupted.
What does an ABPM test measure?
- Automatic BP readings taken at regular intervals over a full 24-hour period
- Readings scheduled every 30 minutes during the daytime to track active hours
- Readings scheduled hourly at night to capture nocturnal BP drops or spikes
- Comprehensive detection of daily BP patterns, averages, and fluctuations
The monitor is compact and worn on a belt or waistband. The cuff inflates automatically — you can work, walk, eat, and sleep normally. The only restriction is keeping the device dry (no showering or swimming while wearing it).
Who may need a 24-hour ABPM test?
- Newly diagnosed patients to confirm high blood pressure before starting treatment
- Patients requiring monitoring to see how well their BP medication is working
